Tips and Tricks for the Best Fitting Swimsuit
Share
Working at Sports Illustrated Swimsuit has gifted us a long list of mini hacks on how to fit and flatter with swimsuits. Shopping for swimwear is not easy. It can be even more tedious than shopping for jeans. We wanted to offer our expertise to make the process more enjoyable and successful because every woman deserves to feel f***ing incredible in a bikini.
Fabric for lifting
Our latest Vesey drop is made of power mesh, a unique swimwear fabric that solves many problems. It reads sleek and sexy while also having major lifting and shaping abilities. The mesh doesn't slip around like a typical lycra swimsuit, so it will stay when you tie it into your suit. It’s compressing, offering incredible support at the bust to make them appear larger. While it's fantastic for giving a little extra cleavage for a smaller bust, it also provides comfort and support for a bigger bust without looking like a nursing bra—no boobs left behind.
Size up on bottoms and down on top.
If you want to highlight your bust, a smaller top will allow for more skin and less fabric. A little spillage will give the illusion of a larger bust.
When it comes to bottoms (non-tie-side), we always suggest sizing up. This will allow the suit to sit on your hips without digging in. It's also allows you to comfortably adjust the suit to sit higher on your hips—like a proper 90s supermodel.
Tie-side saviors
If you are ordering a swimsuit online and aren't sure of your size, go for the tie-side option. It’s typically going to fit even if it's a size off. We love an adjustable side bottom if tie sides aren't your jam. And yes, a Vesey tie-side bottom is coming soon!
Flip it and reverse it
A recent tip a model schooled us with was incredible for curvy women who struggle with bottoms being too small at the crotch: IYKYK. Simply flip the suit around. This works when the suit is a cheeky cut in the back. You’ll, of course, then have to be comfortable with an itsy bitsy moment on the booty.
Pop the seams
On set, when a suit looks incredible but is tight in certain areas, we often pop the seams. You can do this by gently pulling apart the suit at the seam, focusing on the area where it is tight. You’ll hear the seams ripping, and that’s the goal. When finished, you'll have that extra wiggle room you need.
High-rise
As much as we love a low-rise moment, a high-rise bottom is the best way to create and accentuate an hourglass shape. This will elongate your legs and draw attention to your waist, helping to enhance your shape.
